Kremlin's aide: Putin, Rouhani to discuss Iran's nuclear deal

FNA - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin are expected to focus on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and the US violations of the JCPOA in an upcoming meeting, Russian presidents aide Yuri Ushakov announced.

"Ahead of the trilateral summit, the Russian president will hold a meeting with his Iranian counterpart in order to discuss bilateral agenda, Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action for Irans nuclear program, preparations for the Fifth Caspian Summit and the situation in Syria," Ushakov said.

He noted that the Iranian and Russian presidents will have a meeting in Ankara on April 4, and said, "The two presidents will discuss the Iran nuclear deal in the light of the United States statements on its possible revision."

"We expect that Putin and Rouhani will discuss the situation around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in the light of signals from the Americans about their intention to revise the terms of the deal," he told reporters.

"The Russian side sees its key task in preserving the efficiency of this joint plan of action, which is especially important bearing in mind that Iran is fully implementing its liabilities, which is regularly confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)," he said, adding that this position is shared by China and European partners.

He also reiterated that Iran is still committed to the JCPOA.

In relevant remarks in late March, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi warned against the breaching of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action by the US, and said that the JCPOA is not only a nuclear deal, but also a security agreement which should be abided by all parties.

"Should the JCPOA face any setbacks by other parties, it will have severe consequences for the international community," Araqchi said.

He reiterated that the JCPOA is a security agreement and is directly involved with the regional and international security.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister, meantime, said that for over a year, US President Donald Trump has been trying to destroy the JCPOA or make some changes in it in order to what he calls "fixing" it, but he has been unable to achieve any results.

Araqchi reiterated that in case of any setbacks to the nuclear deal, the consequences will be severe for the entire international community.
