Iranian military, police officials in Pakistan for talks

IFP - Two senior military and police commanders of Iran have travelled to Islamabad to hold negotiations with Pakistani counterparts and officials.

Irans Army Air Force Commander Brigadier General Hassan Shahsafi and the countrys Anti-Narcotics Police Chief Brigadier General Mohammad Masoud Zahedian both left Iran on Monday, February 26, for the Pakistani capital.

The commander of the Army Air Force is going to discuss the strengthening of military cooperation with the neighbouring country, especially in the fields related to Air Force education.

General Shahsafi also plans to visit the activities of Pakistans Army Air Force, a Farsi report by IRIB News Agency said.

Heading a delegation, General Zahedian also departed for Islamabad to hold a bilateral meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Major General Musarrat Nawaz Malik.

Zahedians visit is made on the basis of a joint meeting of anti-narcotics chiefs of the two countries in Tehran back in October and within the framework of an agreement signed at that time.

General Zahedian is also scheduled to meet with the head of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Pakistan and the agents of foreign countries residing in Pakistan.

Iran and Pakistan enjoy good cooperation in fighting illegal drugs and narcotics, smuggling, and fighting outlaws at the borderlines.

According to Pakistani officials, planting opium poppy has been stopped since 2001 in the country, but the narcotic hashish is imported from Afghanistan to Pakistan.
