Light quake rocks SE Iran

IRNA - An earthquake measuring 4 on Richter scale shook the village of Hojdak near the city of Ravar in southeastern province of Kerman on Wednesday.


According to reports by the seismography center affiliated to Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the quake occurred at 3:29 hours local time (23:59 GMT) with its epicenter being registered at 57.35 degrees longitude and 30.73 degrees latitude and in depth of 9 km underground.

Rescue teams are ready on site, Spokesman of Kerman crisis management office Mostafa Ayatollahi told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

The earthquake has brought no casualties or property damages, he said.

Iran sits on major seismological fault lines, making it one of the world's most quake-prone countries.
