FNA- President of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) Gianni Infantino is due to visit Iran on February 28, mainly to have a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) had earlier announced that it has invited Infantino to visit Tehran on March 1 but given the busy schedule considered for him during the trip, the FFIRI is trying to have the visit take place one day earlier on February 28.
Infantino will travel to Tehran on his personal plane.
He has stressed that his main goal of visiting Tehran is meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani; therefore, the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran FFIRI is in consultations with the presidential office to coordinate the meeting for March 1.
Infantino is also due to watch Tehran's Derby at Azadi stadium between Perspolis and Esteghlal.
Then he will hold a press conference and will play in a friendly match to be participated by Iranian veterans in Tehran. He has voiced willingness that the match will also include Ali Daei, the all-time top goalscorer and a former Iranian football player who holds the record for the most goals in international football. Daei currently manages Persian Gulf Pro League club Saipa of Tehran.
Another program which is due to be held during Infantino's visit is holding the annual festival of women's football.
Infantino had earlier congratulated FFIRI on booking a berth in the 2018 World Cup after Iran qualified for the tournament.
Iran's national football team advanced to successive FIFA World Cups for the first time in their history.
