�IRNA - An earthquake measuring 4.4 on Richter scale shook Sumar in the western province of Kermanshah at 23:47 hours local time (20:17 GMT) on Friday night.


According to the Seismological Center affiliated to the Institute of Geophysics of Tehran University, the epicenter of the quake was registered at 45.73 degrees longitude and 33.77 degrees latitude at the depth of 8 kilometers.

The epicenter of the earthquake was registered at 14 km of Sumar, 45 km of Gilan-e Gharb and 45 km of Zarneh.

There is no immediate report on possible casualties or damage, deputy governor of Qasr-e Shirin for political and social affairs Nematollah Nazparvardeh told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

Kermanshah has been jolted by several earthquakes since November 12, 2017, when a 7.3- magnitude earthquake hit the province's Ezgeleh region killing at least 620 people and injuring over 12,000.

Iran sits on several major seismological fault lines, making it one of the world's most quake-prone countries.
