December 26, The Iran Project - Iran is one of the most seismically active countries in the world, being crossed by several major fault lines that cover at least 90% of the country. As a result, earthquakes in Iran occur often and are destructive.

In half a day, three light quakes has been felt in Iran's Tehran Province and surrounding cities, as well as the southern and western regions of Iran on Tuesday and early Wednesday.

The first one occurred at 12:41 hours local time (09:11 GMT), a quake measuring 4.4 on Richter scale hit Taza-Abad, Kermanshah Province, western Iran on Tuesday, followed by another earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale which was jolted Sepidan town in southern Fars Province on Tuesday at 15:45 hours local time (12:15 GMT).

Eventually, another quake occurred at 00:54 hours local time (21:24 GMT), measuring 4.2-magnitude jolted Alborz Province, west of Tehran killed one and injured 75 people early Wednesday.

This is while, such quakes have been occurred less than a week after a magnitude 5.2 earthquake jolted the same region and the capital on December 20.

Officials have confirmed one death and 75 injuries in Alborz Province. The casualties occurred as frantic residents were attempting to escape the buildings they were in.

The head of Iran�s Seismology Institute says the risk of a major earthquake in the capital city of Tehran has decreased as several weak aftershocks were registered following a magnitude 5.2 tremor, which affected six Iranian provinces.

Ali Moradi said seven 2-3 magnitude aftershocks have been registered in Tehran so far, adding, �There is no more concern for larger tremors.�

This is while the Iranians are still shocked due to a magnitude 7.3 earthquake, which hit the western province of Kermanshah on November 11, claiming 620 people and wounded 12,386 individuals.
