Larijani in Islamabad to attend confab on challenges, threats of terrorism

December 27, The Iran Project - Iran parliament speaker Ali Larijani, heading a parliamentary delegation, arrived in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, on Saturday (Dec 23), to attend the conference on challenges in fighting terrorism and the role of regional cooperation.

While in Pakistan, he addressed the conference and special session of first six-nation Speakers' Conference.

He also held separate meetings with Chairman of Pakistani Senate Mian Raza Rabbani, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav V. Volodin, Speaker of Pakistan's National Assembly (Parliament) Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, President of the Wolesi Jirga (House of People) National Assembly of Afghanistan Abdul Raouf Ibrahimi as well as Parliament Speaker of Turkey Ismail Kahraman.

Addressing the conference on challenges and threats of terrorism, Larijani dimmed terrorism as the misfortune of the mankind and underscored that extremism and supports provided by intelligence services constitute main factors aiding promotion of the phenomenon.

Addressing the special session of first six-nation Speakers' Conference, Iranian parliament speaker criticized the US for its double-standard policies, adding that today the US has become center and symbol of wickedness in the region.

In a meeting with Larijani, Rabbani said hat recent developments in the world and Donald Trump's decision to shift the US embassy in Tel Aviv to al-Quds (Jerusalem) have brought Iran and Pakistan even closer to each other.

Larijani, for his part, said that Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline is an opportunity to increase cooperation between the two countries.

Talking to Volodin, Larijani dismissed fresh US allegations that an Iranian missile was used by Yemen to target the Saudi soil, saying that the US eyes a new adventurism in the region.

Volodin, for his part, criticized the United States double standards policy on saying that American authorities are afraid of reality.

Speaking to Larijani, Sadiq stated that Iran and Pakistan share common friends and enemies at the international fronts, calling for enhancing strong ties between Iran and Pakistan in all areas.

Larijani, for his part, said that Iran and Pakistan share many commonalities, thus both should take further measures to enhance their cooperation in political, economic and cultural fronts.

Talking to Raouf Ibrahimi, Iranian parliament speaker emphasized that there is a need to enhance cooperation among the regional states to solve the regional problems.

In a meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Larijani noted that his country welcomes Ankara investment in rail, communication, hotel industry, road construction and aviation sectors of Iran.

Ismail Kahraman also reaiterated that the two countries have to remain vigilant so that Daesh instability in Syria will not give room to the activities of more terrorist groups.

The Afghan speaker termed the role of Iran in the region as important and said Afghanistan desires strong ties with Iran.

On Dec 25, the six-nation Speakers Conference concluded in Islamabad with adoption of the declaration of partnership for regional peace, development and connectivity. It agreed to hold the next meeting in Tehran, Iran, next year.
