4.2-magnitude quake jolts southwest Iran

IRNA - An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale jolted the village of Hojdak near the city of Ravar southwestern province of Kerman late on Saturday.


According to the seismological center affiliated to Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 22:02 hours local time (18:32 GMT).

Hojdak is located 140 kilometers north of the provincial capital city of Kerman.

Spokesman of the provincial crisis management headquarters said that the no damage or casualties caused by the tremor has been reported yet.

Iran is one of the most seismically active countries in the world, as it straddles several major fault lines that cover at least 90% of the country. Some of the tremors which hit different parts of Iran have been destructive, causing huge number of damage to life and property.
