Dec 11, The Iran Project - Turkish Minister of the Interior S�leyman Soylu arrived in Tehran on Saturday (Dec 9) to hold talks with top Iranian officials.

While in Iran he held talks with his Iranian counterpart Abdurreza Rahmani-Fazli and Deputy Interior Minister Hossein Zolfaqari and also took part in a joint press conference attended by his Iranian counterpart.

Soylu visit to Iran made at the formal invitation of Rahmani Fazli. The Turkish interior minister is accompanied by Turkish Gendarmerie General Commander Arif Cetin and Selami Alt?nok the General Director of Security.

Rahmani Fazli and Soylu reviewed the ways for expanding bilateral ties, regional and international developments.

In the joint press conference, Rahmani Fazli said Iran and Turkey considering their cordial cooperation in the fields of security are due to hold a joint security commission meeting in Turkey to draw a road map in this concern.

Rahmani Fazli said that in his meeting with Soylu the two sides discussed issues including terrorism, border, goods smuggling, drugs and human trafficking.

He said it is due that next joint security commission to be held in Turkey and a road map to be drawn in these fields so that they could be executed.

The Iranian minister said that cooperation between the two countries could be a base for strengthening politico-economic, trade and security relations and to be a basis for peace and security in the region.

Meanwhile, Zolfaqari and Soylu discussed mutual cooperation to reinforce the two countries� security cooperation and explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating security cooperation.

The two sides also discussed the ways for expanding bilateral ties and cooperation in fighting terrorism, mutual security concerns and the most important regional and international issues.

The Iranian and Turkish officials also reviewed the recent terrorist attack in northeastern Iran during which an Iranian border guard was killed and seven other guards and engineers were injured.
