Iran condemns Taliban attack on university campus in NW Pakistan

Press TV- The Iranian Foreign Ministry has condemned an attack by Pakistani Taliban militants on a university in the northwestern city of Peshawar, stressing the importance of remaining vigilant and united in the face of measures by terrorist groups and their allies.

"Terrorist groups carry out any inhuman and heinous measures only to achieve their ominous goals and make a statement of presence," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Saturday.

He added that terrorists did not respect the sanctity of mosques and holy sites and disrespected academic premises such as universities as well.

As part of their plan to achieve their vicious goals, terrorists do not dread killing innocent people, particularly women and children, in public places and slaughtering students in universities and dormitories, Qassemi said.

The Iranian spokesperson urged a fierce fight against terrorism and called on university students and researchers across the world to make effective efforts to identify and introduce the roots, supporters and creators of this dangerous phenomenon.

At least 12 people were killed and 35 injured after Pakistani Taliban militants stormed a boarding facility at the Agriculture Training Institute, located within the compound of the University of Peshawar, on Friday.

Police and army troops killed all of the gunmen who were reportedly three about two hours into the attack, the military said.

Peshawar, which is close to the Afghan border, has been the scene of violence by Pakistani Taliban in recent years.

Back in December 2014, the militants carried out a deadly attack in the city, killing at least 145 people, including at least 134 children, at an army-run school there.
