Scrapping Iran nuclear deal will be first step to future wars - French Def. Min.



Sputnik - US President Donald Trump's refusal to re-certify the Iran Nuclear Deal has triggered speculation that the agreement could soon be abandoned by the US.




Frances Defense Minister Florence Parly said duringher first visit tothe United States that Paris "needs the JCPOA" (Joint Comprehensive Plan ofAction, also known asIran Nuclear Deal) despiteit condemns Tehran's "destabilizing" behavior.
"Scrapping it would be a gift toIrans hardliners, and a first step towardsfuture wars," Florence Parly said asquoted byReuters, addeing that Paris is working "seriously" totackle Iran's "destabilising ballistic and regional activities."


US President Donald Trump has fallen short ofre-certifying the deal athis speech ona new strategy towardsIran. He has also given Congress 60 days todecide if the sanctions that were lifted underthe terms ofthe deal should be re-imposed.


Washington's step was met witha lack ofenthusiasm fromthe parties that signed the JCPOA in2015, known asthe P5+1 group that includes Iran, China, France, Germany, the European Union, Russia and the UK.

The agreement that came intoforce inearly 2016, stipulated the lifting ofanti-Iran economic and diplomatic sanctions byWestern countries inexchange forclosing Tehran's nuclear program.
