Press TV - Former President Barack Obamas national security adviser Susan Rice has denounced the pro-Israel lobbyist group, American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), for praising President Donald Trumps refusal to certify the Iran nuclear deal.
In a short tweet on Saturday, Rice expressed her anger over the group, which praised Trumps decision as a move that accurately outlined the history and continued dangers of Irans aggression.
The largest pro-Israel organization has had an active role in persuading Trump to scrap the landmark deal that was negotiated by the Obama administration.
Trump said on Friday that he decided not to certify that Tehran was complying with the deal two years after it was signed betweenIran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany.
The president, however, did not scarp the agreement in its entirety, and instead, tasked the Republican Congress with legislating new trigger points that if crossed by Tehran, Washington would be allowed to immediately re-impose economic sanctions that were lifted under the nuclear agreement.
His decision sparked fierce criticism from world leaders as well as both US Republican and Democrat senators. Among the critics, was Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders, who described Trumps remarks as just a lot of bluster.
"If we are genuinely concerned with Irans behavior in the region, as I am, the worst possible thing we could do is undermine this nuclear deal, Sanders said. It would make addressing all of these other problems harder. Unfortunately, I heard no strategy from Trump today, just a lot of bluster."
