Putting IRGC on terror list 'ridiculous': Iran Judiciary official

IRNA Iran's prosecutor general on Wednesday derided at a US decision to put Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) on its list of terrorist groups, calling the move as 'ridiculous.'

'They call Iran's IRGC as a terrorist group, while (Zionist prime minister Benjamin) Netanyahu and terrorist groups are recognized as symbols of freedom,' Mohammad Jafar Montazeri said at a ceremony held in Tehran.

Pointing to the presence of the IRGC Quds Force in Iraq and Syria to fight terrorist groups, Montazeri stressed that the Iranian force managed to severely punish Daesh (ISIS) in the region.

The Islamic Republic has demonstrated its unwavering stance and has announced that it will uproot them, the prosecutor general said.

Referring to Quds Force Commander Major General Qasem Soleimani, the official described the IRGC commander as a symbol of service Washington ridiculously is trying to put on the list of terrorist groups.

It is unfortunate, Montazeri said, General Soleimani is IRGC's symbol of standing against terrorism.

Spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry Bahram Qasemi noted at a press briefing on Monday that 'If reports on the US decision to enlist Iran's IRGC as a terrorist group happen to be true, the Iranian force would also treat the American Army everywhere in the world and especially in the Middle East in the same way it deals with Daesh terrorists.'
