IRNA Iranian tennis referee Ali Nili, the Gold Badge ATP umpire, has received the US John T. McGovern Umpires Award.
The umpires, including Nili, were honored by the 2017 US Open Umpire Awards at the US Open (August 28- September 10).
The Iranian referee was among the five recipients of the major award.
Only those umpires who have at least ten years of umpiring in their record can be qualified for receiving the John T. McGovern Umpires Award.
Iran's Nili, 39, is also the first gold badge chair umpire in Asia.
He is the first man in Iran's tennis history who has experienced umpiring the Grand Slam singles final held in 2015 between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
Additionally, tennis scoring system which can live record the scores of the players in the international competitions has been designed by the famous Iranian tennis umpire.
In a piece, appeared on the US Open website on September 4, Erin Maher has described Iran's Nili as the one 'has continually worked his way up through events, delivering the highest quality of officiating and serving as a role model to his colleagues.
'He has been chair umpire for many prestigious tournaments, including the 2015 Wimbledon men's final and the 2016 US Open mens championship,' Maher wrote.
