MP: Armenians in Iran enjoy political, ideological freedom

IRNA Armenian representative in Majlis (parliament) Georgik Abrahamian pointed to religious minorities stipulated rights in Islamic Republic of Iran Constitution and said that Armenian in Iran are enjoying political freedom and live upon their beliefs.

He made the remarks in meeting with German Ambassador to Iran Michael Klor-Berchtold here on Monday, while another Armenian Deputy in Majlis Karen Khanlari was present as well.

Abrahamian pointed to nuclear deal between Iran and Group 5+1 countries and said that it was a great achievement, which should be maintained.

Unfortunately, the US is doing negative acts to downgrade the issue, so it is necessary that European countries, especially Germany take positive and more consolidated decisions in this concern.

Karen Khanlari, who represents Armenians from South, pointed to good historical backgrounds between the two countries and said that it may help development and expansion of politico-economic relations.

He said that imposed unjust sanctions against Iran had negative effects on Armenians, which lead to immigration of a number of them.

The ambassador said Germany supports dialogue among religions, and added 'we believe by holding talks and negotiations more understanding and commonalties will be created and emerged'.

He said Iran and Germany had close relations and we strongly support to maintain and implement the nuclear deal.
Referring to Syrian crisis and expansion of terrorist groups in the area, Michael Klor-Berchtold said fight against terrorism needs a collective intention.
