FNA- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underscored the necessity for further cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad in fighting the terrorist groups.

"Iran and Pakistan can have good consultations and cooperation in the war on terrorism and developing regional security," President Rouhani said in a meeting with Chairman of Pakistan's Senate Reza Rabbani in Tehran on Monday.

He called terrorism as the largest problem in the region, and said the regional states should cooperate in fighting and annihilating the terrorist groups.

Noting that Iran and Pakistan are the strategic depth of each other, Rouhani said that development and progress of both countries is an important element to increase the regional security.

Rabbani, for his part, stressed the need for anti-terrorism cooperation with Iran, and said his country deems as necessary enhancement of security at common borders.

A senior official announced in May that Pakistan has agreed to change the formation of its military forces along the border with Iran after Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif traveled to Islamabad for talks on the recent cross-border terrorist operation that killed 9 Iranian border guards.

"Pakistan accepted for the first time to dispatch a senior military official to its borders with Iran and create a new military formation there," Iran's Sistan and Balouchestan Governor General Ali Awsat Hashemi said.

He pointed to the outcome of Zarif's visit to Pakistan at the head of a high-ranking political, military, law enforcement, and security delegation to address the tragedy and hold talks with senior Pakistani officials.

As many as 10 guards were killed and two others injured in an ambush near the town of Mirjaveh in Sistan-and-Balouchestan late in April. The assailants escaped into Pakistani territory immediately after the attack.

The Pakistan-based Jeish ul-Adl terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement.
