Expert-level Syria talks in Tehran next week

Financial Tribune- The next round of expert consultations on the Syrian peace process, within the framework of Astana talks, is to be held next week in Tehran.

The joint working group of the three guarantors of peace talks, namely Iran, Russia and Turkey, will discuss the delineation of four de-escalation zones and how to administer them during the talks in Tehran, ISNA reported on Wednesday, citing an informed source.

Prior to the talks, Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari met Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian deputy foreign minister and President Vladimir Putins top envoy for the Middle East, in Moscow on Tuesday to confer on Syria.

Syrian-Syrian peace Talks in Astana, the UN-brokered talks in Geneva, the process of delivering humanitarian aid and reconstruction of the war-ravaged Arab country were among issues discussed during the meeting.

The two diplomats also talked about the possibility of other countries joining the trio in negotiations.

Early in June, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had called on Saudi Arabia and the US to join the talks.

The Astana talks have brought representatives from the Damascus government and opposition groups to the negotiating table over the six-year Syria conflict.
