Germany condemns US fresh sanctions on Iran

IRNA The German government considers the US new sanctions on Iran against the international laws, Germany's Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy said on Monday.

Expressing hope that Iran-Germany trade ties be expanded, Brigitte Zypries in a meeting with Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi reassured that Europe would be committed to its obligations under the nuclear agreement signed between Iran and major world powers.

The historic nuclear agreement, known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, was singed in 2015 between Iran and the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany.

Despite frequent reports on Iran's committment to the agreement by the international bodies and the US administration itself, Washington has imposed new sanctions on Tehran.

Germany condemns the new sanctions, which affect German and European companies, the Minister said.

Expressing his country's interest in signing an agreement between Iran and the German Siemens, Zypries said that German firms are not able to compete with Chinese companies in costs, but in term of quality, they are incomparable.

Stressing that there is a good ground that German railway companies' representatives in their visit to Tehran due in November discuss the issue of financing the projects, he urged launch of Iran-German Chamber of Commerce to accelerate the process of reaching agreements.

Zypries also reassured that his Ministry would fully support German companies' activities in Iran.

Iran's Minister of Road and Urban Development, heading a delegation, is visiting Berlin since July 27 to talk with German officials.
