New anti-Iran sanctions reminder of US untrustworthy nature: Top cleric

Tasnim - Secretary of Irans Guardian Council condemned a recent US congressional bill on new sanctions against Tehran as an unwise move, saying it was yet another proof that normalization of ties with the untrustworthy US government is a nonstarter.

Speaking at a Guardian Council meeting in Tehran on Wednesday, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said the US Congress move to pass a bill on fresh sanctions against Iran was a stark warning to those who still think that normalization of ties with the US would solve the countrys problems.

The anti-Iran bill also shed more light on the untrustworthy nature of the US government, the cleric added, stressing, however, that the Iranian nation has no worries about such hostile measures.

His comments came after the Republican-controlled House passed a sweeping package of bills on Iran, Russia, and North Korea sanctions in a 419-3 vote, sending the legislation to the Senate for almost certain passage and likely making it veto-proof.

Reacting to the bill on Wednesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the move will not go unanswered by Tehran.

The Islamic Republic of Iran will certainly show a reciprocal reaction to the US Congress new measure, he said at a cabinet session, stressing, We withstand the pressures and sanctions.
