Iran willing to attract Thai investors: Official

July 24, The Iran Project Iran is interested in attracting Thai investors in different fields of oil, gas, petrochemicals, fisheries, road construction, automotive parts production, agricultural products development, and construction of hotels and supply stores, says an Iranian official.


In a trade meeting between Iran and Thailand on Monday, Mohammad Reza Karbasi, deputy for international affairs at Irans Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture said considering the post-sanctions opportunities in Iran, it is expected that Thai government strengthen its banking relationships with Tehran to expand the two countries economic cooperation.


Karbasi also stressed that Iran can connect Thailand to the regions 450-million people market and on the other hand Bangkok can be a bridge for Tehran to access East Asian market.


Saying Iran-Thailand's trade volume was $411 million in 2016, he added that in the same year, Iran's exports to Thailand stood at $154 million, growing 67% as compared to the last year, and Thailand's exports to Tehran also increased by 23% in 2016 and stood at $957 million.


Head of Iran Foreign Joint Venture Association Hossein Salimialso said in the meeting that Thai investors can easily invest in Iran, noting there is no problem for money transferring since the country can now open LC (Letter of credit)in most European and Asian countries.


Finally, he expressed hope that the volume of Thailand's investment in Iran to increase in the near future
