Russian, Armenian border guards hold joint drills near Iran's border

Sputnik - The Border Service of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) and a relevant Armenian department conducted a joint exercise with supposed border intrusion into the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region from Iran, the Russian Border Service said Monday.





YEREVAN (Sputnik) The exercise scenario included two nominal border perpetrators crossing intoNagorno-Karabakh and trying toescape intothe mountainous areas. The Russian and Armenian forces trained tocoordinate their actions when looking forintruders, the Border Service specified. The nominal trespassers were located, one bya border patrol team and another byuse ofa quadcopter carrying a video camera, that scoped them outandconvoyedthem away, according tothe statement.
"In order toboost coherence inactions ofthe Border Service ofthe FSB ofRussia inArmenia and the border force ofthe National Security Service ofArmenia invarious conditions, a joint exercise was organized and carried out, themed Conducting Border Search inthe Junction (Nyuvadinsk) Region," the statement bythe organizations press service said.


The Armenian border patrolling system ofthe Turkish and Iranian frontiers remains intact sincethe Soviet era. FSBs Border Service inArmenia includes almost 4,500 people split intofour border patrolling teams inArmenian cities and a border control point atYerevans Zvartnots airport. The service is financed jointly bythe Armenian and Russian governments.
