'US violates human rights under human rights pretext'

July 2, The Iran Project Tehran University professor says Americas recent sanctions against Iran are much tougher than the prior ones, adding the United States violates human rights under the pretext of human rights.

Speaking at a conference on United States, Human Rights and the Discourse of Domination" in Tehran University on Sunday, Foad Izadi referred to the assassinations of the Iranian people by the Islamic Republic enemies and US assistance to Saddam Hussein during theIran-Iraq war and said this is while Iran is accused of violating human rights.

Izadi called on Iranian officials to defend the country against US baseless claims about human rights abuses in Iran, saying public diplomacy should be more serious in this case.

Touching upon the discourse the US created against the Islamic Republic, Tehran University professor noted that to deal with this discourse, Iran need to counteract and take more serious actions in the international arena.

US Congress recently imposed new sanctions on the Islamic Republic over its missile program, support for resistance groups and rights abuse accusations.

In retaliation, Iran's Parliament has devised a countermeasure, comprising10 sections and 20 articles, which will be put to discussion in the near future, said MP Alaeddin Boroujerdi.

Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said earlier that the legislature was to deliver a serious and clear response to the US congressional drive.
