US behavior toward Iran, others not helpful Austrian politician

Sputnik - The United States actions in the Middle East, and particularly toward Iran, do not facilitate stabilization in the region, Austrian Second President of the National Council Karlheinz Kopf said Friday during a meeting with Russias speaker of the lower house of parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin.





MOSCOW (Sputnik) The United States still retains sanctions againstIran inspace and human rights fields, and suspects Tehran ofsponsoring terror, a claim repeatedly denied byIran.
"As forthe US behavior withregard tosuch countries likeIran and others, it does not promote stabilization ofthe situation butthe other way around," Kopf said.


The second president ofthe Austrian parliament's lower chamber added that Vienna was interested ina partnership withIran, noting that Tehran could contribute tostabilizing the Middle East.


"We are very interested onour side incooperation withIran, because I think that Iran can contribute tothe stabilization process inthe region," Kopf noted.


Kopf remarked that sanctions againstthe Iranian banking sector were still inplace, halting the development ofthe country.

Iran and six world powers reached a framework agreement inJuly 2015 overthe Iranian nuclear issue, forming a plan ofaction that should ease the sanctions regime againstTehran. The plans implementation began inJanuary 2016.
