FM: Certain regional states following US wrong signals

IRNA Visiting Foreign Minister Mohammad of Iran Javad Zarif said on Monday that the US is sending some wrong signals to the region that are unfortunately being followed by certain regional states.

In a meeting with his Norwegian counterpart, Zarif referred to the threat of Wahhabism and the extremist beliefs of its followers as a major threat to the region.

Reaffirming Irans principled policy of cooperation with regional states as well as the necessity of stability in the region, he slammed certain regional states for pursuing US wrong signals.

Meanwhile, the Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende expressed condolences over the June 7 terrorist attacks in Tehran which killed 17 and injured over 50 others.

During the meeting, both officials discussed current regional developments such as the Qatar row with its neighboring countries and the situation in Iraq and Syria.

They stressed that political talks are the best solution for removing the present tensions and disputes.

Zarif arrived in Norway on Monday to participate in the 15th Annual International Retreat of Mediators and Peace Process Actors in Oslo Forum.

He was officially welcomed by Norwegian authorities and the Iranian ambassador to Oslo.

The two-day trip is made at the official invitation of the Norwegian Government.
