Iranian Himalayan climber back home
IRNA The legendary mountain-climber Azim Qeichisaz returned home on Wednesday receiving a hero's welcome by his fellow citizens after successfully ascending the 8,516-meter (27,940 ft) Mt. Lhotse Summit in Nepal without supplementary oxygen.

Qeichisaz started his ascent two months ago, and succeeded to stand on the peak of the Mountain Lhotse ten days ago with three other climbers from his birthplace, the city of Tabriz.

He is the only Iranian to have conquered all fourteen eight-thousanders in the world.

Qeichisaz stood on top of the Everest for the first time with supplementary oxygen in 2004, and once again in 2016 without supplementary oxygen.

Speaking to a large crowd who had come to give him a warm welcome, he said, 10 years ago, everybody wished that one Iranian could conquer Everest. But now with the help of our friends and public support, we have been able to conquer all fourteen eight-thousanders and the honor belongs not only to me and my friends, but also to all Iranians and my fellow citizens in Tabriz.

Born in 1981, Qeichisaz, is a student of Physical Education in the University of Tabriz, northwestern Iran. He is a professional mountain climber and the summiter of all 14 eight-thousanders.

He is also a member of the Iranian national mountaineering team who has successfully completed ascents to all of 14 peaks over 8,000 meter without supplementary oxygen.
