IRNA � Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop announced Thursday that her country is eager to continue cooperation with Iran to repel common global and regional challenges.

Bishop made the announcement through a message in which she also extended congratulations to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani for his reelection as president on May 19.

In her message, Bishop also referred to her April 2015 travel to Iran, describing it as positive and fruitful.

As the two sides know, Australia and Iran have had long-lasting positive relations, she said adding the two countries also have the common concerns and interests.

She further pointed to the fight against terrorism in Syria and Iraq, combat with human trafficking and illegal immigration as the examples of common concerns.

The Australian foreign minister, in her message, told President Rouhani that there are many opportunities for fostering economic ties between the two countries, stressing positive measures have been taken towards promotion of trade exchange.

About the July 2015 nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPAO), Bishop said her country supports the agreement and encourages all sides to be completely faithful to their commitments.
