EC secretary warns of S. Arabia's dream to become 2nd Saddam

FNA- Secretary of Iran's Expediency Council (EC) Mohsen Rezayee warned of Riyadh's attempts to form different coalitions against Tehran, and said Saudi Arabia seeks to turn into a second Saddam who launched a war against Iran in 1980s.

"In the early days after the Islamic Revolution, Saudi Arabia organized the Persian Gulf littoral states against Iran under the name of (Persian Gulf) Cooperation Council (PGCC) instead of friendship and used the issue of three (Iranian) islands (Abu Musa, the Greater Tunb and the Lesser Tunb) as a means to stand against Iran," Rezayee wrote on his Instagram page on Monday.

Reminding that such behavior resulted in former Iraqi dictator Saddam's 8-year imposed war against Iran, he said, "Today and after the Islamic Awakening in Egypt and the region, Saudi Arabia has stepped further and chosen formation of a coalition of Islamic countries and the US and has formed a new deployment by raising allegations against Iran but there is a difference, no Saddam is in the region anymore and possibly, Saudi Arabia, itself, wants to play Saddam's role too."

Rezayee called on the Iranian officials to increase their vigilance against the Saudi-led coalition's actions.

Earlier today, Rezayee had also lashed out at the US arms deal with Saudi Arabia worth almost $110 billion which will extend up to $350 billion over 10 years, warning of more warmongering and insecurity in the region.

"Selling $110bln of American weapons to Saudi Arabia will lead to nothing but igniting more fire and creating insecurity in the region against the Muslims with their money," Rezayee, also a former top IRGC commander, wrote on his twitter page on Monday.

US President Donald Trump closed an arms deal with Saudi Arabia worth almost $110 billion, and extending up to $350 billion over 10 years.

The White House announced on Saturday the $110 billion deal will take effect immediately.
