IRNA -- World media lauded massive turnout of people in Iran's presidential and local elections held on May 19.
The US-based New York Times newspaper wrote that 'riding a large turnout from Iran's urban middle classes, President Hassan Rouhani won re-election'.
The UK-based Guardian daily said also that with a huge turnout, polling stations stayed open until midnight in parts of the country'.
The Qatar-based Al-Jazeera said in a report that a big turnout on Friday, estimated at more than 40 million out of 56 million registered voters, led to the vote being extended by several hours to deal with long queues'.
'This time, prominent intellectuals, actresses, Instagram stars and sport figures waged social media campaigns to urge people to go out and vote for Mr. Rouhani, Al-Jazeera added.
The Asociated Press said also in a report that Iranians continued voting into the evening on Friday in the country's first presidential election since its nuclear deal with world powers'.
The UK-based BBS News said also that Voting time had been extended by five hours on Friday, until midnight, amid an unexpectedly high turnout of about 70 percent.'
In the meantime, Reuters said in a report that The big turnout have favored Rouhani.
Hassan Rouhani won a landslide victory in the 12th presidential election on Saturday and was re-elected as the new president of Iran winning 57% of votes.
According to the Interior Ministry, Rouhani obtained 23,549,616 votes out of the total 41,220,131, while his rival Ebrahim Raeisi received 15,786,449 ballots.
Mostafa Mirsalim and Mostafa Hashemi Tab, two other hopefuls, won 478,215 and 215,450 votes respectively.
Out of over 56 million Iranians who were eligible to vote in the 12th presidential election, over 40 millions took part in the event.
The 12th presidential election was held nationwide and in 102 world countries on May 19.
