Former President Khatami calls on Iranian voters to re-elect Rouhani

Press TV - Former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami has called on his supporters to vote for incumbent President Hassan Rouhani in the upcoming presidential election, slated for Friday, May 19.

Reformist Khatami called on voters to re-elect Rouhani via a video posted online on Sunday.

He praised achievements of the 11th administration, saying, "The current administration, despite facing limitations, problems, and high expectations, has managed to make great accomplishments."

"We will vote for Rouhani for freedom of thought, reasoning in dialog, abiding by law in practice, advocating civil rights, and implementation of social and economic justice," Khatami said in the video.

Khatami, who served as president for two consecutive terms from 1997 to 2005, is considered as the leader of Iran's reformists.

Iranians will go to the polls across the country on May 19 to elect the countrys 12th president. The six candidates vying in the race are Tehran's current mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, member of the Expediency Council Mostafa Aqa-Mirsalim, former deputy judiciary chief Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi, former vice president Seyyed Mostafa Hashemi-Taba, incumbent first vice president Eshaq Jahangiri, and Rouhani.
