IRNA � Iran and Oman are scheduled to begin joint naval drills in Oman's territorial waters later on Wednesday, Iran�s General Staff of the Armed Forces announced.


The maneuvers follow meetings between top Iranian and Omani commanders during the 13th Iran-Oman Joint Military Committee.

The meetings focused on promotion of cooperation between the two countries based on common goals and interests.

The two sides underlined the need for maintenance of peace and stability in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
