Tasnim Irans Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani condemned the terrorist attacks on two churches in Egypt that killed and wounded dozens of people on Sunday, saying they were aimed at provoking religious sedition.
In a message to Speaker of Egypts House of Representatives Ali Abdel Aal Sayyed Ahmed on Monday, Larijani expressed condolences to Egyptian lawmakers and people on the fatal terrorist attacks.
At least 27 people were killed in an explosion inside a church in the Egyptian Nile Delta city of Tanta on Sunday, as another blast killed 16 in front of a church in the coastal city of Alexandria.
These terrorist attacks have been carried out with the purpose of igniting religious sedition, Larijani added.
Slamming terrorism as a threat to all people and divine religions, the Iranian speaker stressed the need for interaction and cooperation among nations for combatting the threat given the woeful situation the region is now experiencing.
The Daesh (ISIL, also known as ISIS) terrorist group has claimed responsibility for both attacks, saying they were carried out by two of its fighters wearing suicide vests.
The bombings were the latest in a series of assaults on Egypts Christian minority, who make up about 10 percent of the population and have been repeatedly targeted by armed groups.
