IRNA A member of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) said on Monday that the Majlis is ready for any constructive cooperation to strengthen democracy, peace and security across the world.

Mostafa Zolqadr made the remarks in his address to the 136th meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The meeting is themed '20th Anniversary of Issuing Global Democracy Declaration'.

Zolqadr who is in Bangladesh as a member of an Iranian parliamentary delegation to the IPU meeting, called on the international community to pay sufficient attention to the role of people in maintaining international peace and security, especially under current sensitive situation.

Democracy is a known global ideal on the basis of common human objectives accepted worldwide irrespective of cultural, political, social and economic differences, he said.

Parliaments have been created to help development of the societies and more important than that is upholding the human rights and democracy, said the official, noting that democracy is of higher status in the Islamic Republic, as holding 40 elections including presidential, parliamentary and city and village councils in the post-Revolution era is a good evidence for that.

Zolqadr further noted that MPs are elected directly by people in Iran. He stressed that even those introduced by president as new ministers need to win Majlis vote of confidence to take up the positions.

Zolqadr stressed that Majlis in Iran has the right to impeach all of the ministers and even the president.

The official contended that critical conditions in the occupied lands in Palestine, Syria and Yemen are a deplorable manifestation of ignoring democracy and the role of nations in deciding their own fates.
