Construction begins on Iran's Bushehr-2 nuclear power plant- Rosatom

Sputnik - Construction and installation works on the future Bushehr-2 Nuclear Power Plant in Iran began on Tuesday, press service of the Rosatoms ASE company said on Wednesday.





MOSCOW (Sputnik) Irans deal withRussia onthe first stage ofthe Bushehr project, Bushehr 1, dates back to1992. The first reactor was connected tothe national electric grid in2011 and reached full capacity inthe followingyear.
"On March 14, 2017, the works atthe building site ofthe Bushehr-2 NPP inthe Islamic Republic ofIran started," the press release said.


The Bushehr 2 construction deal, which will initiate the construction and installation ofa second and third reactor atthe southern Iran site, was signed byRussia and Iran inNovember 2014. The deal also included the option ofbuilding six more reactors inthe future.


The Bushehr NPP will include two power units witha Water-Water Energetic Reactor, VVER-1000, the initial version ofwhich was developed inRussia inthe 1960s. Currently, this type ofreactor is the most widespread and popular inits series, with34 such reactors operating all overthe world.

In December 2016, Tehran transferred toRussia the first tranche tofinance the building ofthe second stage ofthe Bushehr NPP.
