Irans Rouhani soon to visit Pakistan for ECO summit

IRNA - President of Iran Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will soon visit Pakistan to participate in the 13th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit in Islamabad.

The 13th Summit of ECO heads of states to be held on March 1 and will be preceded by the 22nd Meeting of the ECO Council of Foreign Ministers (COM) on 28th February while senior officials from the member states will meet on 26th and 27th February to make final preparations for the summit.

Pakistan is hosting the ECO summit for the second time since 1995. The last ECO Summit was held in October 2012 in Baku. Islamabad is preparing to give red carpet welcome to ECO high level delegations.

ECO is a ten-member regional organization, which includes Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Pakistan Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz while briefing the media on the upcoming ECO Summit said most of the ECO member states have confirmed their participation at the heads of state/Government level for the summit.

He added that connectivity for the regional prosperity with main focus on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would be the main agenda of the summit.

The official went on to say that United Nations and the OIC have been invited as observers in the Summit.

He added that ECO vision 2025 will also be adopted during the Summit while implementation of Free Trade Area agreement, Transit Trade Framework, ECO bank, ECO fund for the reconstruction of Afghanistan would also be discussed in the meetings.

The adviser expressing his views said connecting CPEC with other connectivity projects would be the main focus in the meeting.

He noted on the occasion different bilateral meetings would also take place and Pakistan would facilitate all the meetings. Pakistan will try its best to make the summit a success, he said.
