Rouhanis regional trip great opportunity to end anti-Iranian policies

February 19, The Iran Project The visit by the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to the regional countries of Oman and Kuwait is a great opportunity for ending anti-Iranian policies, said former Iranian ambassador to Jordan and Lebanon.

After Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid al-Hamad Al Sabah traveled to Tehran on January 25, seeking to fix ties with Tehran, which began to deteriorate last year amid the confrontational approach taken by thenew Saudi rulers against Tehran, President Hassan Rouhani began a one-day visit to Oman and Kuwait on Feb. 15 to boost mutual friendliness.

Ahmad Dastmalchian, former Iranian ambassador to Jordan and Lebanon, praised Rouhanis visit to the two Persian Gulf countries, calling it an intelligent measure that can affect regional diplomacy and open a new window for the regional countries.

Saudi Arabia, concerned by Irans influence in the region, tried to weaken Irans position, Dastmalchian noted, stressing that but the recent visit of Kuwaiti Foreign Minister to Tehran, bearing the massage of Persian Gulf littoral states seeking to fix ties with Iran, and Rouhanis visit to Oman and Kuwait can reduce regional tensions.

He went on to say that seemingly, Iran intends to welcome Kuwaits proposal to create collective security cooperationamong Iran, the regional states and Russia, solving regional problems without foreign intervention.
