Zarif confers with Russian, French, Turkish counterparts in Munich
IRNA Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held separate talks with Russian, French and Turkish foreign ministers Sergey Lavrov, Jean-Marc Ayrault and Mevlut Cavsoglu respectively late on Friday on the sidelines of Munich Security Conference.


Zarif and his deputies Abbas Araqchi and Majid Takht-Ravanchi are currently in Munich to attend the 53rd Munich Security Conference (MSC) which kicked off on Thursday.

The MSC is attended by 10 presidents, US Vice President Mike Pence, eight prime ministers, ministers of foreign affairs from 30 countries, ministers of defense from around 20 countries as well as the secretary generals of the United Nations, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Organization of the Islamic Cooperation, Arab League and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The international gathering is also attended by heads of the European Parliament and the European Council, European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, directors general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), INTERPOL, International Organization for Migration (IOM), UNHCR -the UN Refugee Agency.

Topics for discussion during the ongoing prestigious event include the future of NATO, world order, human security, terrorism and extremism, regional issues like South East Asia and Korean Peninsula, Arab World, Syria and Ukraine.

Zarif is also scheduled to exchange views with presidents and foreign ministers of a number of the participating countries as well as owners of economic enterprises on the sidelines of the security conference.

Munich Security Conference is underway in Germany on February 17-19.
