Injury toll in Plasco collapse reaches 230

IRNA - Latest reports released on Thursday evening indicated that the number of those wounded at the Plasco Trade Center fire and collapse has risen to 230, said the director of Public Relations Office of Tehran Emergency Center.

Hassan Abassi told IRNA that technicians of Tehran Emergency Center have provided outpatient and recovery treatment for 176 injured and 54 others have been taken to Tehran hospitals.

The official said only one firefighter with serious injuries is still at the hospital.

He noted that operations to remove the rubble are still underway at the site of the tragic incident.

Meanwhile, Spokesman of Tehran Fire Department Jalaleddin Maleki said on late Thursday that rescue teams at the site of the tragic collapse of Plasco trade center in downtown Tehran have retrieved the body of the last firefighter from the rubble.

According to Maleki, the total number of martyred firefighter has increased to 16.

Plasco Trade Center, the 17-storey building collapsed on January 19 while a number of firefighters were inside the building to rescue those trapped in the huge fire.

Plasco, built in 1962, was the first high-rise building in the Iranian capital.
