January 9, The Iran Project An Iranian parliamentarian has stressed the central role of Iran and Russia in Syrias ceasefire after the liberation of the strategic city of Aleppo.
Speaking to a reporter on Monday, Masoud Goudarzi, a member of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said following the landmark victory in Aleppo, some came to the conclusion that the Syrian crisis should be solved through a political solution so Russia and turkey brokered a truce agreement for Syria, adding Iran and Russia definitely have a crucial role in establishing a nationwide ceasefire in the country.
He went on to say that Syrias crisis is a strategic one, noting now the matter in Syria crisis is ideological and intellectual, some foreign-backed groups such as ISIS, not having any ideology and religion, created the crisis by using military weapons.
The countrywide ceasefire in Syria came one week after the Syrian army announced its full control over Aleppo when the last remaining militants were evacuated along with civilians from the eastern sector of the city.
The truce, brokered by Russia and Turkey, is largely holding across Syria since late December. Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, formerly known as the al-Nusra Front, and Daesh terrorist groups are excluded from the ongoing truce.
Damascus and Russian officials, however, have reported numerous ceasefire violations on the part of Takfiri militants in recent days.
