IRNA � Thousands of people from the province of Qom met with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei here on Sunday.


The meeting took place on the eve of the birthday anniversary of Hazrat Masoumeh (SA) who is buried in the city of Qom. She is the sister of Imam Reza, the 8th Imam of Shia Muslims.

Today also marks the anniversary of the uprising of the Qom people against the Pahlavi regime in the history-making uprising of the people of this city on January 9, 1978 in opposition to a newspaper article which targeted the founder of the Islamic Republic in Iran the late Imam Khomeini.

The Supreme Leader is to address the meeting shortly.
