Cyclist clears 1,000 kilometers in 48 hours to save trees
Sputnik- A stalwart amateur Iranian cyclist performed an impressive feat of endurance as he travelled 1,000 kilometers in 48 hours on his bicycle in order to raise awareness about his environment protection project.

Mohammad Tajeran is an engineer, not a professional athlete, and he had never taken part inbicycle races likethe Tour de France. And yet he managed tocross the distance betweenthe city ofMashhad innortheastern Iran and Tehran inonly 48 hours, riding his bike non-stop, all forthe sake ofprotecting the environment. As Tajeran told Sputnik Persian, he didnt come upwith the idea ofmarathon bike rides promoting environment protection overnight. Ever sincehe became an engineer, Mohammad kept wondering what his true calling might be. "These thoughts pursued me forat least ten years. And then one night I had a dream telling me togo travelling and todo something inorder toprotect the environment," he explained.

Having decided tofollow this omen, Mohammad grabbed his bike and set course forSwitzerland, where he formed the We Need toProtect Trees public eco-project.

"There inSwitzerland the project also evolved intoa community. Originally I only had two adherents, butvery soon many took interest inour idea. We intend toexpand and open our branches indifferent countries inorder toteach kids acrossthe world toprotect the environment. Obviously the first branch ofour community will be established inIran and will serve asan example foractivists inother nations," he said. Obviously, such a major undertaking requires sponsors, so inorder toraise awareness Mohammad Tajeran set offon his 1000-kilometer bicycle sojourn fromMashhad toTehran. According tohis calculations it will take about $1,300 toput the project ontrack. According toTajeran, he already held about500 study groups onenvironmental protection in183 schools in51 countries and has planted nearly 1,000 trees together withthe students. "I cannot say that I live insome specific place these days. Im travelling all the time. Yes, my family lives inMashhad, butmy home is onthe road," he declared.
