Zarif confers with Lebanese prime minister on Syria, regional crises

IRNA Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Tuesday conferred with Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam on settlement of the humanitarian crisis in Syria and the regional disputes.


Zarif and the Lebanese prime minister underlined necessity to expand cooperation between the two countries in new era after election of President Michel Aoun.

They exchanged views about formation of the Lebanese new government and the regional conflicts and the critical humanitarian situation in Syria.

Zarif, leading a politico-economic delegation arrived in Beirut on Monday afternoon and immediately met with new President Michel Aoun.

General Michel Aoun was elected by absolute majority of Lebanese parliament representatives on Monday October 31, 2016 as the 13th Lebanon president.

Zarif is due to meet with head of al-Mustaqbal Party (Future Movement) Saad Hariri.
Hariri is expected to form new government of Lebanon on Tuesday as well.

Following his meeting with Prime Minister Tammam Salam, Zarif told reporters that they held fruitful negotiations.

Zarif congratulated the Lebanese people and political parties on electing new president and expressed Iran's readiness to support the Lebanese democratic process.
