TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iran was elected to the Council of Administration of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), an intergovernmental organization with 192 members.
Irans Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi, who is Istanbul for the 26th Universal Postal Congress, said the countrys accession to the UPU Council of Administration came after negotiations in the Istanbul meeting.
Representatives from 192 member of the Universal Postal Union have gathered at the 26th Universal Postal Congress in the Turkish city to set the course for 2017-2020.
The UPU is an intergovernmental organization mandated to ensure universal access to affordable public postal services of the highest standard. Established in 1874, it is considered the worlds second oldest international organization. Since 1948, the UPU is part of the United Nations family as a specialized agency, according to its official website.
