Larijani discusses human rights issues in Brazil

Tehran, Oct 6, IRNA Secretary of Irans Human Rights Headquarters Mohammad-Javad Larijani discussed major human rights issues in a meeting in the Brazilian capital with head of the Human Rights Commission of Brazils Legislative Assembly.


He said that establishment of a religious democracy based on Islamic wisdom has turned Iran, that was once a kingdom, into a democratic state, where the vote of public and elections play a key role.

Larijani is currently in Brazil to discuss human rights and judicial issues with the Brazilian officials.

He briefed his Brazilian counterpart on how the Iranian society respects followers of other religions as well as religious and ethnic minorities and also how rights of the Iranian citizens and the issue of human rights are observed in Iran including the economic, social, political and civil rights of the people.

The scholar also voiced Tehrans readiness to cooperate with Brasilia in the fields of human rights stressing that Iran enjoys rich experiences to this end.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian official said that the countrys parliament attaches value to the issue of human rights.

The right for food, rights of vernaculars, right of land, right of water, right of religions, rural regions and presence of women in key decision making posts are among challenges Brazil faces in the field of human rights, he added.

The Brazilian official also welcomed human rights and judicial cooperation between Tehran and Brasilia.
