Japan, Iran call for expansion of scientific cooperation

Beijing, Oct 4, IRNA - Founder and chairman of the Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum in Japan Koji Omi called for expansion of scientific cooperation with Iran.


Omi made the remarks in a meeting with Iran's visiting Minister of Sciences, Research and Technology Mohammad Farhadii on the sidelines of the 13th annual meeting of STS in Kyoto, Japan.

Touching upon Iran's significant progress in the field of science and research, Omi voiced STS willingness to foster its cooperation with the Islamic Republic.

He then added that Iran as one of the leading country in the field of science and technology should play a pivotal role in STS.

Expressing satisfaction over his meeting with Farhadi, Omi also voiced his willingness to travel to Iran to explore ways of expanding mutual scientific cooperation.

Farhadi, for his part, voiced the interest of the Iranian side to expand collaboration with STS.

He added the Iranian academic and research institutions especially professors, researchers and producers enjoy high capacities for fostering cooperation with STS.

Hailing STS positive contribution in challenging global issues, Farhadi underscored that the Japanese institute could play a pivotal role in settling human society's problems by resorting to science and technology.

Farhadi, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Kyoto on Saturday evening (Oct 1,2016).

Established in 2004 as a non-governmental organization, STS has 81 members from 28 countries, including Iran.
