Three sculptures by acclaimed Iranian-Canadian artist Parviz Tanavoli are on display at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto.
Three of the Vancouver-based artist's sculptures namelyPoet in Love,2009;Big Heech, 2014; andHoriztonal Lovers,2016, his latest sculpture which is being publicly exhibited for the first time, have been installed.
Tanavoli isbest known for his bronze sculptures inspired by calligraphy. He is a pioneerof the 1960sSaqqakhanehmovement,the neo-traditionalist movement which incorporatesIranianfolk art and is seen as the first school of Iranian modern art, theculturetrip.com reported.
Inhis six-decade career, Tanavolis work has been exhibited across the globe including the Davis Museum in Wellesley, MA; the Tate Modern in London; Grey Art Gallery inNew York City, NY; the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran; and now, Torontos Aga Khan Museum.
