Kenya and Iran have vowed to cement their diplomatic and economic ties� to open new frontiers between Nairobi and Tehran.


Speaking after holding bilateral talks with Iran�s President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi said� cooperation between the two states are set to be enhanced now that international sanctions on Iran had been lifted.


Muturi praised the historic relations between the two capitals that date back to the 18th century, adding that Iran was Kenya�s strategic partner in the Persian Gulf region.


�The Memorandum of Understanding between Kenya and Iran parliaments provides grounds for cooperation between legislatures of the two countries and we expect the relationship to be enhanced,� said Muturi.


Tighten relation


Rouhani described Kenya is a strategic friend of Iran and urged the two nations to take advantage of their geo-locations to strengthen their relationships diplomatically and economically. �Iran is open to deepening its cooperation with Kenya which is a gateway to East and Central Africa and there is a proper environment to further this cooperation,� said Rouhani.


Kenya�s export to Tehran is predominantly tea and the economic ties got Iran exporting a diversified product portfolio to Nairobi. Moreover, Kenya�s floriculture industry is rapidly growing and seeks to fledge its share of trade in Iran.
