Iran, Azerbaijan study media cooperation among Islamic states

Baku, Oct 1, IRNA Managing Director of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) Mohammad Khoddadi met on Saturday with Azeri Vice President for Political and Social Affairs Ali Hasanov on ways to develop media cooperation among the Islamic states.

Khoddadi welcomed the proposal to form media union among Islamic states, saying that most of the news about the Islamic states are being broadcast or printed by the press are usually being produced by the western news agencies and the Islamic states should take action and produce their news themselves.

Iran and Azerbaijan can broaden cooperation in various sectors such as oil and gas in the form of a multilateral media cooperation among the Caspian Sea littoral states, OANA within ECO framework, Khoddadi said.

He described his talks with Azerbaijan Press Agency Azar Taj as promising and said the two side exchanged views on broadening of mutual cooperation mainly in the economic sector.

Iranian officials are serious in broadening ties and cooperation with Azerbaijan, he said.

Restoration of peace and stability in the region help broaden economic cooperation among regional states, Khoddadi said.

Azeri Vice President for Political and Social Affairs Ali Hasanov, for his part called for bolstering of media cooperation among Islamic states and this could be raised in the upcoming OANA in Baku.

Azeri President Ilham Aliyev attaches to expansion and bolstering of relations with Islamic states, he said.

The recent visit of the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to Azerbaijan was very significant and two sides reached agreements to launch North-South corridor to help deepen mutual and regional economic cooperation, Hasanov said.

Azerbaijan regards Iran as friendly and close neighborly state, he said adding that during sanctions era when the western powers pushed us to pursue their policies but the Azeri president never let they use Azerbaijan's (soil) to pose threat to Iran.

He also welcomed expansion of media cooperation between the two countries which leave positive impact on mutual and regional cooperation.
