Kenyan speaker: Parliaments can play key role in boosting Tehran-Nairobi ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) The speaker of Kenyas National Assembly called for promotion of parliamentary cooperation with Iran, saying that parliaments can play a major role in boosting bilateral and multilateral relations.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in Tehran on Saturday, Justin Muturi pointed to issues discussed in an earlier meeting with Larijani, saying that during the session, the two sides discussed promotion of friendly relations in all political, cultural and economic spheres.

He said parliaments have a major role in promoting bilateral and multilateral relations in various areas, economy in particular.

The Kenyan parliament speaker further said he has invited Larijani to pay an official visit to the East African country in the near future.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Muturi arrived in Tehran on Friday for a three-day visit.

He will hold talks with a number of other senior officials of the Islamic Republic on ways to promote bilateral relations between the two countries.

Expansion of relations with African nations in all political, economic and cultural fields is top on the agenda of Irans foreign policy.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who took office in August 2013, has repeatedly stressed his governments interest in boosting relations with African states.
