Iran urges strong trade ties among D-8 members

TEHRAN (Tasnim) An Iranian deputy foreign minister called for efforts to boost trade and economic interaction among members of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation by supporting the private sectors and exchanging experiences.

Irans Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi attended the second extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers of D-8 on the sidelines of the 71st annual session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Friday.

In the meeting, chaired by Pakistans foreign minister, the Iranian diplomat highlighted the ample opportunities for economic cooperation among the D-8 members through stronger private sectors and the exchange of experience.

Araqchi also described the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as a proper international framework that could help the D-8 members outline their priorities and promote mutual cooperation.

The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation is an organization for the development of cooperation among the following countries: Iran, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey.

The objectives of the D-8 are to improve member states position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at international level, and improve standards of living.
