Rouhani leaves Tehran for Caracas to attend NAM summit

Tehran, Sept 16, IRAN President Hassan Rouhani left Tehran on Friday morning for Caracas, Venezuela, to attend the 17th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit.


During his stay, President Rouhani is to deliver keynote speech at NAM summit and confer upcoming presidency of the summit to Venezuelan counterpart Nicols Maduro.

The Islamic Republic of Iran chaired NAM summit during 2012-2016.
Prior to his departure, President Rouhani said all should spare no efforts to promote peace and stability in the region as well as in the world.

Speaking to reports, he said, 'I will express Iran's views and stands in dealing with regional and global developments'.

'Meeting with a number of political figures and press conference will be on my agenda during the visit,' President Rouhani said.

Current situation in the region and the globe is not satisfactory, said the Iranian president, adding that all should strive to attain peace and stability in the region as well as in the world.

Our national security is our priority and then the stability and security of the region and the globe, President Rouhani said.

Peace and non-interference in other countries and respect to their national sovereignties and making coordination in resolving global issues will be of prime importance, President Rouhani said.

President Rouhani also expressed the hope that to properly voice Iran's stands and in meetings with the heads of state to exchange views on issues of mutual interests.

The chairmanship of this round will be ceded to Venezuela, he said.
'After Venezuela, we will pay a visit to Cuba to confer with the country's officials on issues of mutual interests as the country leaves significant impact on Latin American equations.'

In the next leg of the regional tour, President Rouhani is to deliver speech at the UN General Assembly to express Iran's stands on regional and global developments.
